Let’s plant 1000 holm oaks

The holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia) is one of the primary trees of the Mediterranean. Its resilience and adaptability have made it a characteristic species of the Portuguese cereal steppe and montado, consequently becoming one of the main symbols of the Alentejo region.

Dispersal of acorns through jays.

Environmental education actions aimed at raising awareness across the population, particularly among younger generations, about the need for reforestation and mitigating the advance of climate change in a region highly susceptible to its effects. The initiative encourages the collaboration of the entire community to reforest the Mértola municipality with native plants, specifically, in this case, the holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia).
